Nothing New
03:29
|
|||
Nothing here can go until you stop.
til then nothing here can start to mend.
Nothing here can stand until you drop.
Nothing new can start until you end.
Not sure anymore if you can hear?
Not sure anymore if you can see?
Not sure anymore what you can feel?
Not sure if you know that this is me.

Unaccustomed as I am
03:09

Way Back then in ’83 I sat up there upon your knee and hung on every single thing you said.
It was a loving mix of common sense and poison and I took all inside, back then I hadn’t really read anything.
But Take a look at you now.
Take a look at me now.
Take a look at us now.
Son it's such a different time
That’s what I say to hide the shame
But You know that even now I just can’t bring myself to give you all the blame.
We were just like all the rest,
we feared the worst and tried our best
It really isn’t my place to complain
But even so, here I go
But Take a look at you now.
Take a look at me now.
Take a look at us now.
So let me try and shape this message
let’s try and tell it straight and pay my tribute to the man.
But it’s so hard to shape this,
impossible to fake this
Unaccustomed as I am.

These Mistakes are Mine
04:55

Viewed from a certain angle, everything looks fine.
If you can get the the light just right, just right, Everything is perfect
Spent so long sat compromising
It’s time for some apologising
I’ll lay them out again in front of you.
Put the suspects in a line.
Funny yet, I’ve no regrets.
These mistakes are mine.
Viewed from a certain angle, everyone looks sad
Viewed from a certain angle, Everyone looks beautiful
If you can nudge the focus just a little bit, all the money’s there
Viewed from a certain angle
Everything’s alright.
You know I long ago stopped waiting
For words you’ll never say.
I’ll lay them out again in front of you.
Put the suspects in a line.
Funny yet, I’ve no regrets.
These mistakes are mine.
Even after all this work and every time you rolled your eyes
I’m still here creating something new to try and make you smile.
I’ll lay it out again in front of you
I’ll lay it out again in front of you.
I’ll lay it out again in front of you
Put the suspects in a line.
S’funny yet there’s no regret ‘cause these mistakes are mine.

This House
07:04
|
|||
They built the new estate on the fields at the edge of the forest
Four hundred brand new and affordable homes, up near the radio tower.
Show homes showed us what our lives could be
Two by two by two by two the people found their plots
We were the first ones to move in
The number on the door is how you know it’s yours
Every neighbour’s home, you know your way around
The pictures might be different, but the walls are all the same
Seventeen and needing room to breathe
The last one to appreciate it, I’m the first one in this house to leave.
This house is smaller now x 2
--
So you start brand new lives.
Everything together, both of you, all the time
Until the shadows on the scan appeared
And days you took as given, quickly turn into a gift.
The doctor sat us both down to quietly explain.
There’s nothing they can do now.
He’s not coming home again.
This house is shrinking now x 2
--
So now it’s only you.
Do you really need so much space now you’re living life alone?
Even though the kids still call,
You can’t quite place the voices, you can’t quite find their names
One day everything you ever owned was emptied on the floor.
They reckon it’s not safe for you to live there anymore.
This house is vacant now. X2
—
And now we’re there unpacking things.
Boxes inside boxes inside boxes full of everything you ever did.
Diaries of feelings that you’d never ever shown
Photographs of all the other houses that I’d never seen that you’d called home.
Every single thing
Is every single thing
Your things
His things
My things
Our things
If we pack carefully we’ll do it in one load.
With the man and his van, who’s taking it all away today.
Now there’s just the empty shell that’s left of where we’d been.
It’s all ready for the next ones to move in.
